About the Program

Hi! I'm Santiago Chavez!

PT, DPT, NCS

Graduate of St. Edward’s University in Austin, TX; with a Bachelors in Kinesiology Pre-PT in 2008 where he received the NASPE Outstanding Major of the Year and Outstanding Kinesiology Graduate for his dedication to the major. Progressing to his doctoral work at The University of Texas Medical Branch in 2013 and beginning his career with Harris Health System focusing in neurologic outpatient he has strived to provide patient centered services. Dr. Chavez received his board certification in 2017 and has practice in home health, neurologic inpatient and outpatient within a county based system and in the private sector. His over 5 years of clinical experience is focused in various settings, such as aquatic therapy, bracing and equipment needs and community based initiatives. Dr. Chavez is excited to progress in his career by providing education for clinicians through lectures in the Harris Health Neurological Residency and development of a Spanish curriculum for students and therapists to improve communication with patients in the clinic.

Start With Vocabulary

This class will set the foundation for the rest of the course by providing you the tools to begin learning Spanish. You would be presented with vocabulary that will help you get people moving.

Objective Evaluation

The purpose for this class is to provide you the opportunity to use the vocabulary that you are learning and apply it to objective measures used in therapeutic evaluation such as MMT, ROM, pain…

Functional Mobility

This class will continue to reiterate the vocabulary you are learning and associated it with functional mobility such as precautions, transfers and bed mobility.

Gait and Lower Extremity Interventions

The objective for this class is to apply the vocabulary you have learned to interventions that help strengthen and stretch your patients lower extremity. You will also utilize terminology that will help you correct posture and gait.

ADLs and Upper Extremity Interventions

In this class you will continue to apply the vocabulary you have learned to interventions that help strengthen and stretch your patients upper extremity. You will focus on language that will guide patients through activities of daily living, scheduling and posture.

Case Scenarios

The last class will put it all together! You will be able to organize all your thoughts and apply the vocabulary you have learned to real patient case scenarios. The case scenarios will challenge you to problem solve from an evaluation> outcome measures> interventions> goals for discharge.
